Let's Be Honest :
A Small Talk About Dancing
Though I'd hate to further any stereotypes,
most women like
to dance. More than that, they like men who can dance.
Big problem: most men don't like
to dance (or at least think they don't, since many
are not willing to try). Therefore, many girlfriends and
wives never enjoy all those special dances with their special
someones. Many girls never see the dance floor. Some (actually,
I see it all the time) leave their beaus at home and go
dancing with each other (and have a great time without the
guys).
Fortunately, even men can be won
over. Granted, there may be an initial fear of failure
or "looking silly," but seriously, if you can
walk to the refrigerator (and I know you can), you can learn
to dance. I've had very few serious injuries occur, folks. Really,
none.
The great thing about social dance
is that you can challenge yourself both physically and mentally.
Dancing builds coordination and teaches your body to respond
the way your mind tells it to.
Dance classes are a great way to
learn something new with someone you care about.
Plus, even if you take by yourself, you're still doing something
good for yourself. So grab your friends and get to class!
(Normally, girls, if you can get one guy to be there, the
others will feel better about showing up.)
"The
dance classes were fun! We had a great time.
We laughed, we learned, and we enjoyed the others.
Marcus makes it easy to walk out on the dance floor." |

What is dancing?
It has been said that dancing is
conversation set to music.
Simply put, it is deliberate movement to music. Whether
you dance
alone or with a partner, it is one of the oldest forms of
self-expression
and communication. Although it can be challenging, it is
meant to be fun
and rewarding.
What are the benefits?
Dancing builds poise, self-confidence,
and grace. It helps in many other activity you may
like to do, even all kinds of sports. Dancing teaches your
body to do what your mind tells it to, therefore developing
coordination, as well as balance. Dancing extends your social
network, drawing you closer to your dance partner and helping
you make new friends. It is also an excellent form
of exercise. As an added bonus for guys, it's one of the
few times we get to
be in charge.
"From the first lesson, I was
hooked! I have met many
new people, and I feel confident whenever dancing
opportunities arise." |

take perfect feet,
an amazing body, or past dance experience." |

Do I need to have a partner?
You may take classes as a single or as a couple.
Couples receive a discount in price and have a steady partner,
but singles learn just as well. If you want to dance, there
will be someone who will dance with you.
How long will it take for me to learn?
You may take as long as you like.
Some people are content with the basics and a few
moves. Others take months or years in order to develop technique
and learn complicated patterns.
What should I wear?
Wear what you are comfortable in.
At some point you may want to get a pair of dancing
shoes, but they are by no means necessary starting off.
When you start spinning, shoes that slide are recommended
(leather or suede bottoms). My favorite dance shoes are
a pair of tennis shoes with suede glued to the bottom (rough
side down).
What if I need to cancel my lesson?
Most likely, it's not a problem. As of March 1, 2008, Momentum Dance Concepts has a
new cancellation policy regarding private lessons.

What about prices?
Class dues are per month and due
on or before the first of every month. Prices are
listed next to class schedules, but are generally $50 for
singles and $70 for couples. Private lessons (one or two
people) are $30 an hour, and semi-private lessons (three
to six people) are $50 an hour. Private and semi-private
students who pay for five lessons in advance receive the
sixth lesson free. Groups of seven or more are considered
classes, and class rates apply.
January 1, 2007: Unfortunately, we no longer accept checks.
